To avert the most harmful impacts of the climate crisis and live l’dor v’dor, from generation to generation, we need to not only invest in climate solutions, but rapidly slash greenhouse gas emissions. This includes stopping the drilling, mining, and burning of oil, gas, and coal, keeping these fossil fuels in the ground and unburned.
But fossil fuel companies have spent decades spewing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, polluting our air and water, sowing misinformation, and delaying climate action just to make a profit. To achieve climate action at the scale that science and justice demand, we need to bring all the people and power of the American Jewish community to bear; we need to bring all our might.
That’s why we’re launched All Our Might, a new Jewish campaign to end the era of fossil fuels and build a clean energy future. And it’s why this spring, around the Passover holiday, we will organize public rituals in our communities to call on banks and asset managers to stop investing in fossil fuels.
The month of April is an especially important moment for action because many financial institutions will be preparing for their shareholder meetings. It is also, as our friend Rabbi Arthur Waskow identified, a confluence of holy days: Passover, Easter, Ramadan, and more.
Like the V’ahavta, All Our Might is a campaign rooted in love: love for our planet, love for our communities, and love for generations to come. Whether this is your first time participating in a public-facing action for climate, or you’re an experienced organizer, this moment demands our passion, skills, and courage in the face of the unknown, like Moses, Aaron and Miriam.
