But the conference was a disappointment that failed to live up to its own rhetoric. It came hot on the heels of a UK autumn budget which barely mentioned the climate crisis, and a net-zero strategy which fell far short of what we need. Based on the Early Buddhist Texts, these two-hour sessions will present the teaching of the Buddha on the inter-relatedness of everything and the obligations to preserve life. The sessions will focus on specific examples provided in the Early Buddhist Text about protecting nature, looking after one’s health and well-being, conserving natural resources, eating mindfully, recycling, and constructing dwellings in a consultative and sustainable manner. Toward a New Instrument Addressing the Full Life Cycle of Plastics: Over the last decade, there has been a swell of voluntary initiatives and regulations designed to address the plastics crisis. More recently, the subject of an intergovernmental, legal instrument designed to address pollution from plastic has emerged in various international fora. Between 2017 and 2020, parties, regional groups, and stakeholders submitted 10 formal propositions concerning a possible global instrument to address the plastics crisis. In battle against climate crisis, don’t overlook the blockchain: “The world needs to almost halve emissions over the next eight years to stay on track for a 1.5°C world, while at the same time expanding access to energy to bring hundreds of millions of people onto the grid,” said Mark Radka, Chief of UNEP’s Energy and Climate Branch, referring to data from UNEP’s Emissions Gap Report 2021. “Blockchain technology can play a part by making possible more accurate load monitoring, generation and distribution in the grid through efficient use of data,” he added.
